In the summer of 2000 the space next door to Deli Lane became available for sale, Jahn and Mike knew it was a golden opportunity to create something special that could be an extension of what they had accomplished at Deli Lane. For over 20 years the space housed “Your Father’s Moustache” bar. They laughed recalling the countless games of pool and darts they had played with friends when they worked together at “The Depot” back in the day.
So they negotiated a deal to buy it and set out to renovate in time to open on Super Bowl Sunday 2001. “We wanted to keep the same neighborhood feel while upgrading the interior and constructing the bar itself to be the main focal point of the space.”
They opened a walkway that connected Deli Lane to the newly named Sunset Tavern; they also opened the front wall and put sliding glass doors in to connect the interior and large outdoor patio space.
Then offering a full liquor bar, over twenty draft beers, countless bottled beers and a fun wine list, they added 25 flat screens, pool table, state of the art sound system, juke box, classic sports memorabilia, and a stage to accommodate live music. They also added comfortable seating for small or large parties and now you have what has become the place to catch a game or meet up with family or friends for Karaoke, Team trivia, birthday celebrations or just kick back and relax time.
Happy hour 6 days a week already has iconic status in South Miami and with the full menu available from Deli Lane it has all the necessary ingredients for preserving and creating that perfect neighborhood gastropub.
